Can anyone shed some light as to the reason why a whole bunch of UK sites, approx 50 - about 2/3 of the category - have been deleted from ODP. Many of these sites are frontrunners in this category.
Broken links to all the sites doesn't seem to me to be a viable explanation as to why they have been deleted.

They haven't necessarily been deleted. It is possible that due to a reorganization or reinterpretation of editing rules in a particular section that an editor has moved them to another part of the directory. The editor in the destination category must approve the moves before they are accepted in the new location.

There have been some disconnected whisperings of technical glitches at dmoz causing some sites to drop recently (last few weeks)

It may be related to that, or it may be as choster suggested, just a bit of a spring clean

Thank you for your replies. I'm hoping it is a glitch, since my site has not been moved to another category, and neither have the others as far as I can make out.

I've emailed the editor in question - I suppose I'll just have to sit on my hands until he replies.

I had a site listed, then deleted. It turned out that someone thought it was in thwe wronge region. It needed to be listed where I am, rather than the area of interest.

Without knowing what category it's hard to guess. In some areas a category with 75 URLs listed may broken down into subcategories and the sites may reappear. It may be any other kind of reorganization, and it may of course be a technical glitch.

If the sites don't reappear you should consider sending feedback to the editor of the category, or to an editor of a higher level category.

Be sure to search for the URL to see if the site has been moved somewhere else. It may have been moved to a category you haven't thought to check, or the title may have been edited.

It also may help to search for the root URL (mydomain.com) because it may have been shortened from (mydomain.com/index.htm) for various reasons.
