DMOZ no editor in my categories!!

does this mean I have no chance here?

I am just looking to submit a new site it should be suitable for the industry section and the locality section of dmoz as a local business but in this case both categories need an editor.

Does this mean I have no chance?
I am not really prepared to apply to become an editor for this reason because
1. it is perhaps the wrong reason
2. I already have plenty to do :-)

any advice appreciated.

Your site will be reviewed for submission by an editor heigher up the chain. It may take longer to be reviewed though.

I am not sure what the ODP guidelines are for submitting to both a local and general category. But if I had to choose just one category, go for the general category.

Mark thanks for your reply. In looking through the categories I noticed a company I know was listed in two, industry and locality. Can't do anyharm if they manage it but I the general industrial category would be more important.

As long as you have a physical address and it is easy to find on the site then you qualify for a listing in both Regional and Business.

Yes it does except for the issue that there is not an editor in either of them :-( .. another site I submitted to a cat where there was an editor went into the blue screen of death so I guess I may have better luck with these :-)

I understand editors are overworked but it is a shame not to give at least some automated reply .. e.g.

"the current wait for review in this cat is 3 months thanks for submitting."

Let me restate what I mean by qualify. You qualify to be able to submit your site. From the guidelines “No site is guaranteed placement in the Open Directory, and the project depends on editors using good judgment when adding content.”.

As far as the wait is concerned I can’t say much. It can be as quick as a few minutes to as long as a year. An editor above will get to the site if there is no editor in the category you submit to.

Yes! I am an editor! Not a very experienced one though (and my brother is sitting here laughing and saying that I’m not a very good one either!!!). :)

any idea how many hours are expected of editors in case I get an urge to volunteer. I expect knowing how it works from the inside editing categories I am interested in might help me in submissions into categories I am working in (not the same).

Is there a time commitment for editors?

There is no time requirement. We appreciate any time you can commit to improving and developing the directory. In order to keep the community thriving, editor accounts will expire after 4 months of inactivity. This allows another editor the chance to take over an area where an inactive editor may have left off.

If your account expires, send an e-mail to ODP Staff to request reinstatement of editing privileges.

Will do. Need to be making a little more money from this lark before I can spare the time I think. :-)

BTW anyone had any success submitting to about.com lists are they similar?
