Will an entry in Zeal get me a decent listing in Looksmart? Does it work in a similar way to ODP -> AOL?

Zeal editors cannot list commercial sites. DMOZ editor can.

Yes, I noticed that they won't list commercial sites, but the category I want a listing in is a "commercial" category, I just wonder how they determine a commercial site, or are all the sites listed in a commercial category there through looksmart?

To get all the inside information on whether sites have paid to be in Looksmart join Zeal as a Zealot. You don't have to do any work ;) But you will get lots of inside info.

Not all commercial sites have paid for their listings :( Though a quick scan leads me to think that these are exceptions from when LS was building up a directory to start with i.e. the oldest sites.

Most info sites with banner ads will be fine on getting in. But there is no submit - I think contacting the zeal editor and suggesting the site is the way to go.

Maybe. I had a site listed in Zeal prior to the merging and was pleasantly surprised to find it listed in Looksmart after the merger. Is is however a non-commercial reference site so that may have made a difference. Being non-commercial I was not prepared to fork out $$ for a listing so the free listing and subseuquent (not explosive by any means) traffic are very much appreciated.

Whether this was a one off occasion or has the possibility of being repeated - who knows?

Have had some success through zeal, just got a new site in reviewed web site listings, so zeal may be worth it after all
