Browsing ODP to find some relevant cat, I just fell into some JS redirect spam doorway leading to agressive multiple windows porn sites. There is no editor in current category, should I simply go 1 step up or is there a faster way to denounce such practice?

Either email an editor higher up in the tree or submit an Update request. Or feel free to send me feedback ( [dmoz.org...] ) and I'll look after it.

This is happening to a number of SEs and directories lately. Domain names whose owners have decided not to renew are being gobbled up by adult webmasters. The problem is that they are placed in directories under completely different categories and although we have an army of volunteers but with so many sites it just takes that much longer to determine which ones have changed.

Thank you for the heads up Macguru; and as a general note to anyone who comes across such sites feel free to feedback me [dmoz.org ] and I will take care of it.

There are also some disturbing reports of some of the cheaper (and obviously more unscrupulous) third-party domain registrars stealing domain names back a few months after registration.

The page is already out of the index. The editor is probably in France and should be asleep right now. He mailed me a tank you message and deleted the entry.

Unless I am mistaken, ODP editors and staff keep a constant vigil to spot similar schemes. This is certainly not the first nor will it be the last time a listing was accepted to the directory only later to discover that the content had changed.

When I left there was specifically a good bit of focus on the Adult websites contained in the directory - either legitimately, or, under false pretenses.

Actually, having an army of volunteers to regularly review listing in assigned categories is one of the biggest advantages to a human edited directory.
