Anybody jumping at this offer from business.com?

Does anyone use Business.com as in users directly, or other sites pulling the data like the LS or ODP model? I can't remember ever seeing a referral from business.com in my logs, but just wondering if anyone else sumits to them or has any luck getting traffic from business.com listings?

The special deal is here:

[business.com...]

for anyone interested.

I submitted my Url along time ago before they started charging. Did not know they started.

I receive maybe 5 referrals a month from them. Not really sure what kinds of users visit them.

ihelpyou,

They have to make back the $7.5 million they spent on the domain name :)

One thing I do know about business.com is that Google will give you credit for link pop if your site is listed.

A month or so ago I was doing some research on Google and link pop. I found a couple of sites that Google had listed with links pointing from business.com.

So, a business.com listing will help with Google link pop, but I don't know to what degree.

I'd say its worth going for the free submission, but I wouldn't pay the $300 express price. They pretty much guarantee that you will be reveiwed in 90 days for the free submission process, as the final page says you will recieve an email concerning their decision when it happens.

johnb: I have 2 sites listed there and I wanted the link pop for google also.

But I checked about a month ago and they seem to have put a click counter redirect on the links (much the same as in yahoo)

So I think the link pop is lost here unless google can decipher this as a redirect.

If you get in thru a paid listing, do you get a straight thru link? (no redirect or counter?)

P.S. Traffic is just a little less than ODP referrals.

Hate to reply to my own post, but I need to retract:

I found a random site listed 2 levels above mine, checked link:site on google, and sure enough, there was the business.com page. So I figured this was before the redirect/counter stuff, and looked at the cached page, and yes, it had the redirect/counter link to the random site cached. So it can decipher that link.

Here's my problem: the category page that my site is listed on is not listed in google, but the page/category just above it is listed. It is seven subdirectories deep (including /directory/) and takes 6 clicks to get there. I didn't think google had a limit on the number of nested subdirectories? Can anyone confirm a limit?

I have never noticed a limit, but then again...I have never used a url with that many directories. It might be that it is a new category?

bobriggs - Submit the category to Goog and see if there IS a limit. :)

I submited to business.com before they start charging. I did not even know that they start charging for submission.
I am getting very few clicks from them, may be 5-10/month.
I do not know if I want to pay $300 and only get this amount of results.
Also, business.com uses google to supply their directory. I am getting alot of hits from google and yahoo but not business.com. I do not think the $300 is a resonable amount.

Am I missing something here? I went to check out their site after reading this thread, and they are giving the same results as Google. When you check similar pages it then says powered by Google.

Or is this just referring to their directory? I did not see any directory results in the search listing. So would it be worth it to pay for a listing that doesn't come up in the search?

You're right. It doesn't search the directory, but who knows? Maybe sometime in the future?

DaveAtIFG: I did submit the URL to google and I guess I'll have to wait 3 weeks to see what happens.

Well I hope I don't forget, but usually someone will resurrect an old post just in case that I do. I will be watching.

The other possibility: ODP listing is another level deep, so the seven subdirectory theory probably isn't valid, unless google has imposed a limit on business.com. However, the length of the URL could be in question, it is 123 bytes.

( Business.com is fairly wordy, with a lot of _ ;) )

legster: Just got a couple of referrals from business.com today, checked and they're not google results any more.

Not even a backfill.
