I paid for my listing in Looksmart recently and 2 weeks later, I have found that we are listed in MSN, ranking number 50 for our main search phrase. I did not realise that MSN changed the ranking from the order of sites that are listed in Looksmart (where we are No. 6) - How wrong I was :( I feel like a total amateur for making this oversight.
I really need advice and 2nd opinions as to how I can get a second stab at improving the MSN ranking which I was very hopeful about as a steady refferer.
I would be VERY happy to alter my page structure BUT how do I get MSN to re-look at it? Please tell me there is a way.
Hopefully Yours, Stavs.
If you are within the 30 day submission period of LS partners, try the change form, explaining that the description that you are now providing is more accurate.
My site, seems to do very well in MSN, but i have listed with LS.co.uk and LS.com, out of the fifteen regional or so MSN's, i'm in 11 / 12.
if you want to strengthen you situation with MSN, submit more pages to MSN, via LS partners.
Some questions to think about.
1. Is your site themed ?
2. Are all your KW's and meta-description, replicated in your main document ?
3. Do you use frames, and proprietry technologies in your pages ?
From the sounds of it, your competing against some pretty good competition. You can list 5 pages from your domain on MSN.com, and MSN.co.uk, don't forget Yahoo.com and ODP which are the major directories of the web.
1. So if I change my listing with Looksmart during the 30 day period, MSN will AUTOMATICALLY be forced to revisit my site? Meanwhile, before I do this, I can optimize my site more for MSN?
Does this all sound feasible?
2. How is it possible to submit pages to MSN without going through LS?
Much Obliged, Stavs
have you noted MSN's new layout for its search? along with this new layout, our site has jumped from #116 to #61 without anybody doing anything. i can't think of any possible explanation. what would you say MSN looks out for? which sites does it rank better than others? obviously, it doesn't matter if your LS ranking is high, MSN has its own mind ..
we're pretty satisfied with our looksmart description as it is appropriate to our site. but does MSN look ONLY at the site description given by LS? i'm really wondering what else it looks out for. is there any other way to improve ranking without having to go through LS again?
i hope you can enlighten me as well ..
