When I got to ODP and check for my URL it shows up fine but when I click on the link to category to find my competitors my link is not there with the others. Should I be concerned? I know my URL is still there but there seems to be something weird happening.

Oilman, tell me about it! I was an editor on ODP, then I was dismissed by some idiot who decided to delete a load of sites from my cat. She didn't even understand my cat, starting claiming a lot of my sites were doorways or something...which they weren't!!! I complained, and got the boot! Justice? Ha!

sorry to hear that backus. ODP is certainly not a perfect system but then I can't think of any directory that is. Yahoo, for example, has a completely different set of problems all its own.

All in all I've been pretty happy with ODP and the way things have been handled. My main concern right now is that I don't lose my AOL listing as a result of a funky RDF dump. That AOL listing is the only thing paying the student loans right now.

The URL in your profile has apparently never been submitted to, or added to, the ODP.

I think the rules here allow you to post the URL you're asking about, no? If you're willing, you may get more specific answers (limited, of course, by the need to maintain other editors' confidentiality).

Actually, we discourage this. In order to be a helpful forum, we feel that questions which are focused on a person's particular situation are not generally helpful to all members.

Often, an ODP editor will StickyMail the poster asking about specifics, and once the problem is cleared up, we encourage people to post about the solution or how to avoid the problem in general terms. That way, others can actually benefit from the situation.

Incidentally -- and I bring this up fairly often -- this is not a place for individuals to post about their dissatisfaction with ODP (or any directory). Those sorts of posts do nothing to educate or help our members, and there are other forums which are specifically for that purpose.

Laisha - you are absolutely correct. I did not approach this in the best manner.

First off let me say I am not voicing dissatisfaction with ODP. In fact, I've been quite happy with how I've been treated and I was given a good description for the site in question.

I could have put a more educational spin on this topic by inquiring as to certain points about how the ODP database is managed as a whole - are there times when the database is updated or refreshed and would that possibly cause some temporary funky-ness to some cats if you happened to looking at them at a the same time etc etc.
