>>2) Describe your experience and interest in this subject area: - What are all the right things that i could write in this box?
-- Who you are; how you know something about the subject; why you're interested in looking at web pages on the subject.
A couple of paragraphs is plenty. We don't get many rocket scientists, and we often have to make do with people who regularly read a magazine on the subject. (You are at the same time demonstrating your language competance.)
>>3) What is your Business Affiliation with this category? - What info i should provide in this box?
What companies that do business in this area do you work for, or have an interest in; what websites that might be listed here do you (or family members) own, operate, give content to, or get income from?
>>4) What does the meta editors look for in the Sites Which i submit ie in the three urls which i provide.
1) Do those URLs describe sites that should go in that category?
2) Do those sites really contribute something to that category?
3) Is the description accurate, concise, informative, and free of advertising hype or other non-information-carrying verbiage?
4) Do the title and description match the style of other listings in the category?
5) Are the title and description conventionally punctuated and capitalized; and free of syntax errors, spelling errors, typos, etc.?
This is a sample of the kind of work that you're willing to provide to the directory. We're looking for work that looks good enough to have been professionally edited.
>>5) How long does it take get accepted as an editor?
Five minutes to a month. One or two weeks is probably typical.
6) Is it really very difficult to getting accepted as an editor?
I wouldn't have thought so, but most applications are declined. (Perhaps 10-40% are accepted.) You, for instance, might run into trouble on issues of grammar and punctuation. (If English is not your native language, though, ODP has categories in most major languages -- and meta editors that know those languages would review your application.)
>>7) After getting accepted what would be my work.
-- Look at web sites submitted to the category; describe them and add them -- or send them to another better category.
-- Find more web sites that would fit into the category; describe them and add them.
-- Fix syntax and spelling errors, etc., and remove hype that prior editors had left.
-- Look at URLs that have stopped working -- try to find the site's new URL, or remove the listing.
-- Communicate and work with other editors who are trying to do these things.
-- Learn enough of the ODP topic hierarchy to know what other topics are related to yours, and maintain "category descriptions" and "related category links" to help users find their way around the directory.
>>8) Tips and Tricks if any.
ODP provides forums and FAQs for editors that would keep you busy reading until you timed out.
Probably you do not know ODP.
For what I know and what I read in several forums an editor can not monopolize a category.
Only Meta or Editall can accept new editors.
ODP is now one of the best way to get indexed on Internet at all: I think that we can only thank ODP. It is not nice to publicy insult ODP.
If you suspect that an editor is corrupted you can contact ODP itself reporting your opinions about the suspected editor.
Sincerely,
Angiolo
Well, is there any advantages after becoming an editor.
What will you do after getting accepted as an editor?
other than just maintaining the category given to you.
As a webmaster how can we make use of category given to us?.
I don't mean to do anything against the ODP rules.
Why is that many would like to become an ODP editor like "Sathish"
regards,
Sathish
some others might be able to answer this better, but:
1) you basically choose the smallest category you are most interested in -personally or professionally- and apply to that one first, you'll have a better chance of being accepted in less crowded or established categories.
2)a good idea is to start with a regional category where you live/do business, that way, you can be building up a resource for all the companies in your area. at the same time, you'll be learning about all the services in your area, so the knowledge you'll have will become professionally valuable.
3) once you've proven you can edit this category according to ODP guidelines, then you can build up your profile and start requesting additional larger categories that you are interested in.
4) Many ODP editors have used their experience at dmoz on their resumes, and have reported that it has helped them get new & better jobs.
