Once a site is promoted to "top sites" you don't have this option. You have to submit a change request and wait 4-6 weeks.
My question: If you select the meta-tag option to start with, does it still pick up your meta info after promotion to top sites? My thinking is it probably doesn't, but would like to know from someone's first-hand experience.
Also, has anyone had any luck playing with metas while in the lower directory?
Most of the time though, the editors will edit a meta tag desciption (as any editor would) unless the desciption given is a fair, coherent, and brief description of the site. It's would be in your best interest to write a desciption to these terms and try to get 3 or more of the most important keywords into it.
It is fair in the long term. It took my site about 10 days to get into the top directory and about 2 months to reach the top of the popularity ladder. Surfers will dig for those sites on the bottom.
That confirms my suspicion. It sounds like the editors check/edit the title/descript when placed in the topsites directory, regardless of it being generated from your metas or written on the submission, and it is permanent until you request a change.
I just thought, hey if you can use metas, get in topsites, and then have control over your listing with metas... but we wouldn't be so lucky.

Has this been recent? Their submission info stated your listing must age 3 months before topsite consideration. (talking about the free route here.)
I figured they took on this policy in order to drum up their new paid promotion deal.
