Forum Moderators: open
After the 23rd of that Month I checked on Google
for the two sites in question and found them
listed showing that the info had been pulled from
DMOZ. Again checked DMOZ and still not listed. I
have not received any emails from DMOZ regarding
my submission - I also wrote them an email about this situation in November and again didn't get a
reply.
I re-submitted the sites in December and added a
new site that I wanted listed - still no listing
or communication from DMOZ. Am I doing something
wrong? I wouldn't say I was a professional at this
so I am open to suggestions as to any changes I
have to make. BTW I haven't had a problem getting
these sites listed with other directories. The
sites in question are detailed in my sig.
Anyone got any ideas as to my next course of action as I would obviously like them to show up on a DMOZ search?
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Steve.
>next course of action
#1 can't be seen today. When the site is ready, submit to proper category under Regional UK [not to USA]
#2 submit again with a note at the bottom that reads [editor please note that the search box is NOW working]
#3 When you feel the site has enough deep content, submit the site.
#1 - can't be seen today? what does this mean?
#2 - search box not working? doesn't it- which one?
#3 - deep enough content?
where is this info from? I am a bit new
to all this and trying to understand.
Sorry about posting url's in sig - won't do
it again ;)
Thanks for your help - it is appreciated.
Cheers

Can't be seen means that when I went there the site would not load in MSEI
The BOX is the domain name search box which was not working in Oct. when it was tested 3 weeks in a row.
The "directory site" seemed a little lite on listing or content. It did work and looked good.
[sending sticky mail]
Many thanks for that I will do as you suggest.
Can't understand why #1 wouldn't load in MSIE
but it may have been a server thing.
I will re-submit and attach the notes as you
suggest. Once again your time and patience are
appreciated - hopefully this should resolve the
situation.
Cheers
Steve
p.s. Thanks all for the sticky mail :-)
Just looking at one of the categories that
I have submitted to and it says at the
bottom that it was last updated in October
2000. Surely they must have had submissions
into this category between this time as it
is quite a popular one. Any ideas why this
would be?
BTW any opinions on why two of my sites were
listed in the ODP for one day and then removed? Google picked up the info from ODP just before they removed the sites. I know
you don't have crystal balls just thought
you might have heard of this before :-)
Thanks again.
Steve
It seems that you are having a few difficulties with your DMOZ submissions, now may be the time to pause a little and take stock of where you are.
It is my belief that a listing at DMOZ is one of [in not the] most important components in successfully promoting a site, so take your time and prepare.
Firstly check your site[s] in the most common browsers and ideally on both the Win and Mac platforms. In short make sure it works!
Secondly, read the manual;)
[dmoz.org]
The above link will really help you in deciding how you need to proceed with your submissions.
Thirdly, make sure the sites are completed and have sufficient unique content to justify a listing.
Finally make sure that you are submitting to the correct category, this really is crucial and will help with getting your site listed as quickly as possible.
Above all be patient, it will be worth it.
>BTW any opinions on why two of my sites were
listed in the ODP for one day and then removed?
No idea. Just take stock of the current situation and perhaps re-read Mr Mackins earlier replies and your stickymail from Laisha.
I have read the posters notes above and have
acted on the recomendations and agree entirely with what you say about DMOZ.
It is just difficult to know what each
directory wants from a site i.e. I was listed
in Yahoo without paying and rejected from
DMOZ. I appreciate there are a lot of
variables to consider when a site gets looked
at by an editor just wished I'd found this
forum earlier so that I had an idea what
was wrong and what needed changing.
The getting listed then removed bit threw
me I must admit - but I have resubmitted
and am keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks one and all your help is greatly
appreciated.
Cheers
