Go to any category in the Yahoo Directory and you'll notice that they've changed the way that site listings appear. They now look quite similar to search results (not to mention the sponsored ads).
I think it looks all right - less cluttered.

Is that new? I thought it already was about 20 listings per page since they started spreading listings over several pages and ranking them according to popularity.

You're absolutely right. I checked at archive.org and they used to list 40 sites per page.
