and wanted to put this there but its closed, just wanted to ad a little update to my post.
Earlier today logged in to DMOZ forum to check status of my submission , which is no longer available, and wrote another post ranting about not getting listed and the importance of it (i know thats a debate in another thread).
Soon as I posted it i started to remember that its a team of volunteers that edit a gazzillion categories and a gazillion submissions and you need a senior team just to monitor all the editors. So time must be spread out pretty thin given the sheer volume it has to review. And then reading that the acceptance ratio is like 100 to 1 made me realize its feasible i just didnt meet the standards.
Just wish they could put the status back but i guess it spreads time out even thinner.

Many of the people wanting status were people that were spamming the directory, and it was important to tell them nothing at all about what we knew about their sites and associations.

For the rest, knowing that the site was awaiting review, and that asking in the forum would not hasten the time of that review, achieved nothing - for submitter or ODP alike.

Thanks to the Mods for allowing this post, did'nt realize it was one of those that needed approval first.

I was in error on the 100-1 ratio ,that's for rejected websites being approved, not first time submits.

For the rest, knowing that the site was awaiting review, and that asking in the forum would not hasten the time of that review, achieved nothing - for submitter or ODP alike.

I guess that makes sense, not only achieving nothing but actually delaying editors from reviewing sites.

I've always had the sinking feeling that answering questions about submission status was a losing battle, because the only person who's happy to hear the answer is a spammer. Joe Honest Submitter couldn't possibly feel anything but frustrated when he's told that his site is still waiting to be reviewed. )-: It's a better use of my time to go add a site; that's one more happy website owner *somewhere* out there.

There are so many other directories now, and such controversy always surrounding DMOZ. One thing to keep in mind when a directory is popular. It is very hard to manage and keep up with the volume.

I guess i should also add that like many I put quite a few pages up that didnt have enough content and hav'nt been updated as i was'nt able to keep up with it so I think in my case I didnt really meet the standards. I bet thats common too, people thinking they have good enough websites but against high standards, actually don't.

DMOZ editors are about the best people in the world.
