Hi,
i was wondering if anyone in this forum might be able to shed some light on an occurrence.

I had a site accepted into DMOZ recently. It was sat nicely and snugly in its category with only one other site.

That category now shows empty - i.e. my site and the other site have both disappeared.

If I use the site search facility I can find both sites and they both show as being on the same category as before. The links to the sites are there and they work but going to the category page again theough the search shows no sites.

Does anyone have any experience of this?
Is it because - someone has decided on a new category and sites are being moved but the search has not been updated yet?
Glitch - happens from time to time between updates?
Both my and the other site have been booted?

Any ideas?

It depends on the category in some cases. There are some category levels that do not list sites. Sometimes and inexperinced editor may list a site in such a category. If someone notices this, they may move it back into unreviewed.

It is also possible the category could be moving, being consolidated with other categories, or any of a number of other reasons.

The search function/index is behind what is present in dmoz.org. If the site was listed and meets the guidelines they probably moved it to a more appropriate category. Try the search function next week and search by yourdomain and see if it shows back up.

All of your theories are possibities. I'd say the second is the least likely, but if you submitted the site to that category, and there's only one other site there -- that's a very strong indication that probably no sites SHOULD be there -- so if I had to bet, I'd bet on the "sites being moved elsewhere."

Search certainly lags the actual database. So, for that matter, do the public category pages (and sometimes even the editors' category pages.) So, yes, theoretically you could also be seeing different public index pages on different servers.

And glitches are known to happen.

And lots of sites get removed.

I'd give it a couple of weeks and try the search again.

thanks for your replies - I've actually found the site now by drilling down through the various categories. It was moved - along with the other site into a related category with more sites in it.
