A directory intentionaly built to NOT pass PR - will it work?

I just finished setting up my first directory and it wont pass PR , Intentionally.

I'm seeding the directory with high quality "official" type sites that could care less (if they are even aware) about getting PR passed on to them (whenever the directory gets PR).

I'm thinking that most webmasters that are simply looking for a place to pass some PR to them will run as soon as they see the cgi?out script and that saves me a lot of work rejecting submissions .

The directory quality and integrity grows and anyone that "really" wants in can buy a sponsered ad .

So thats the direction I am working in..Providing useful quality content for my visitors without being hassled by all you (inclusive I ;) evil webmasters looking for a PR link ..will it work?

I think it will work if you don't charge any submission fee or if you have large amount of visitors.

Well, there are those who really doesn't care about PR at all. And those that don't even know it exists.

Bottomline is your traffic. If our referrer logs show your directory is sending a good amount of traffic, then it will likely succeed. But then again, there are those who don't even bother to look at their logs. =)

No need to use redirection for this; rel=nofollow should stop pagerank being transferred.

Yeah, man, scraper site. And you won't even kick back some page rank. You'll just sponge off other people's work and try to scoop their traffic, and then charge them for it. Try writing some real content, instead.

There's a big difference between a valuable directory and a scraper site, Stefan. From Dauction's first post it sounds very much like he's interested in creating the former. Scrapy fake directories could care less about reducing the amount of spam listed in them, they'll list anything.

I'm listing only usefull websites that will be relevent to the visitors search ; I dont care to be inundated with webmasters looking for PR links that's not what this directory is about.

The sites listed in the directory are already authority sites they neither need nor even care about having PR passed to them , they do care about quality referrals ..and that's the traffic that I am sending them .
