DMOZ: choose 120+ links in PR7, or 25 links in PR5?

Which directory should I submit to? How much PR dilution is there?

I could submit a site to a category with a large number of links (120+) and a PageRank of 7, or to a PR 5 category with around 25 links. The latter is more on-topic, but neither are off-topic, one is just a bit more specific to my intended audience. In fact, the URLs are the same except the PR 5 category has an extra sub-directory specifying the site's audience.

But, I could try to submit to the PR 7 category if that would have a greater impact than the further specification to my target market.

How much PR dilution is there because of the large number of sites, or should I ignore that and concentrate on the on-topic nature of the smaller category?

I think that the editors will add the site to the category that they feel more appropriate anyway, and submitting your site to a less accurate category might result in delays as the site is bounced around from one category to another.

In that tiny corner of the universe where I edit, irrespective of where a submission starts out, the site will end up where it ought to end up. That might well be:
(a) the same cat where a site was submitted, or
(b) a different cat where I can edit, or
(c) the unreviewed area of an appropriate cat
(if that cat is outside of my privleges), or
(d) the delete box (some simply are not listable.)

When I am listing a site, neither the PR of the site, nor the PR of the appropriate cat, nor the number of previously existing links in the appropriate cat, are going to play any role in the final listing decision.
I believe I am far, far removed from holding a unique view on such matters.

Any editor who does take into account the PR of the category, would soon be accused of malicious editing.

Always go for the most specific category that fits.

I assume that your site is eligible to be included in one of those different categories: it can happen in dmoz too...

Editors will decide which category is more eligible for your site....

Considering that, I would take into account:

1. The most appropriated themed category

2. If both categories are similar in content I would list the site in the PR 7 category; in any case you should consider that having that category 120 sites, probably subcategories could be created soon and your site could be moved in category having PR 0 for some times....
