Dmoz RDF data access question

How do I access the DMOZ RDF data?

Dudes,

What form do they supply the RDF data in? The files look like they are zipped up. What (free) tools do I use to use it if I download it?

Any help is more info than I have now!

Yes, data is zipped. The resulting RDF files are text only.

Have a look at [dmoz.org...] - You will find some documentation and in "Upload tools" a set of third party tools to get the RDF dumps working on your server.

(If you should be using IE or any other broweser that thinks he should _display_ the zipped file instead of saving it, either use a better browser or use right mouse click / save as to download the file)

The .gz files are compresed with GNU gzip. On Linux/Unix you extract them with gunzip; under Windows a reasonably recent version of Winzip should do the trick.

If you want to look at the data format before downloading the full RDF files you can download the example files

content.example.txt
structure.example.txt

which contain a small subset of categories and sites.

I would suggest using some commercial tools because the ODP data is not very clean and that makes parsing a bit difficult.
