I have a free listing here after being approached by a telesalesman. They are now asking me if I want to pay £245 per year to have an enhanced listing with company logo, description etc. and be listed in 25 categories rather than two.

Has anyone done this? Or does anyone have any other comments/experiences about applegate they can share with me?

I am generally skeptical of people who ring me up about this kind of stuff ;) but they seem OK.

Thanks,

Helen.

I would ask them how many clicks it is likely to bring you and then compare it to what you could pay with PPC for the same money. After I worked out a quick comparison with them over the phone they didn't call back. :)

Why would anyone pay a directory more for a listing than Yahoo charge?

But I suppose if you have exhausted all the other directory submissions and have money spare you may get the odd referal. Ask if they can give you some hard stats for your business sector.

Me - I'd spend the money down the pub - it would be more rewarding (IMO)!

I started a similar thread in February. We didn't get very far though.

Cheers for the replies, guys.

Speaking of this, as I understand it, the Yahoo charge doesn't even guarantee a listing. 200 quid is a lot of money to gamble with! Is it worth it?

Yes. I probably put in a couple of hundred sites a year and have done for several years. Never once have the sites failed to make back that £200 several times over as a result.

Applegate looks a quite nice little directory.

I think £245 for an entry is a bit steep though, especially when CountyWeb offers so much more.

Look's as though they are trying to encroach on Kellysearch's patch.

You might care to closely inspect the URL of their "links", as they actually go via a redirector script.

They may bring visitors, but they do not pass any PR on to you. They only give that to their own "network".

So they have a network of sites?

What's a redirector script do?
