Submitting to LS from a specific category

LS automatically disregards it?

I have submitted yesterday to LS using the express submission, received an acceptance email and have noticed the following: even though I took care to go to a specific category and submit from there, their response email looked like this:

=====================================================
Greetings...
RE: Your Express Listing Submission to LookSmart / Order # ...
...
--Original Message--
You have received a new Express Submit site order:

Order id: xxxxxxx
Order date: 01-17-2001
Order total: $199.00
URL = xxxx
Title = xxxx
WebMaster =
Email = xxxx
Phone = xxxx
Category =
Category name =
Syndicate = US
Channel = looksmart
SKU = xxxx
Description = xxxx

Express Submit for internal use only: you will not be able to access this if you are not a Looksmart employee.
==================================================

From this it appears their reviewer received the submission without a category suggestion...

Is this standard procedure now, should I perhaps have pressed the "submit a site" link at the bottom of the page and not the one near the category name, or what?

With Looksmart, it makes no difference what category/page you click the "submit a site" link on.

The editor will put your site in the category he/she believes is most relevant. He/she will also give you the description.

What you type in the box for a description is acting as a guide for the editor.

When I submit a site, I just go to Looksmart.com and immediately click the "submit a site" link on the front page.

Now the link says "get listed fast" on the front page.

I paid to submit at least 10 sites to LS before I realized just that. Out of those 10, only 1 was added to the site I suggested it to. Given the fact that their directory confuses me, that was fine with me.

>He/she will also give you the description.

I have also given up trying to suggest descriptions to them. What I use that field for is to mention anything that might be important and that they might overlook.

Example: "This site offers a free massage with each order." Or something along that line. :)

Good points Laisha!

I also might "suggest" a category...but they end up putting the site where they want it.

That box is purely a guide for the editor.

Actually, it all makes it much easier when submitting as all the work is left up to the editor. With Yahoo, you best do everything correctly.... good description, right category, etc.

I've had pretty good luck in getting them to chagne the description after it had been accepted. It seems they want to leave the keywords out, so a nice friendly "thank you" and "by the way" letter seems to work well.

I believe that you have 30 days after acceptance for them to change the description.

Thanks, everybody. While I knew that they tended to disregard the description (...), I didn't know that they disregarded the category submitted from even more... It used to be (in the days of free submissions long gone) that the details of the category submitted from were part of the submission, and in that past, while they did butcher the descriptions, wherever I submitted was wherever the listing landed.
