Whoops!

This section.

"Please provide 2 or 3 URLs, that you would add to this category along with titles and descriptions for each."

What is unclear about the instructions? They are looking for you to provide URLs which would be eligible to be listed in the category you are applying to.

Read the editor guidelines and the category description (if any), and go for it.

Craigster, a few tips... Find a couple of quality sites that aren't currently listed in DMOZ. Check the category description to be sure they fit in. Then try to write good titles and descriptions, following the guidelines. Have someone look a them - obviously, spelling or grammar errors will get you a quick trip to the reject pile. Read some of the other descriptions in the category to see how they are usually done. Good luck!

Just a quick point about rogerd's good advice - in some more untended categories the titles and descriptions may not be a good example to follow.

Go for 3, not 1 or 2 & if possible find sites that are listed nowhere in the directory, i.e. avoid deep links if possible.

stever, I think I know what his problem is. drdsl2000, is it that you are having trouble finding sites in your niche that aren't already dmoz listed?

Thank you all for the clarification.

I wasn't clear if it should be a New web site not listed in DMOZ, or a current DMOZ listing that needs rewriting.

I'll submit 3 new listings for sites not listed in DMOZ, in the category I am applying for. It's pretty sparse in there. About 10 listings.

I wasn't clear if it should be a New web site not listed in DMOZ, or a current DMOZ listing that needs rewriting.

Rewriting an existing bad description can work too, but I would explain what you're doing in that case. Otherwise the person reviewing your application may not understand that you chose a listed site on purpose. And if you can find three unlisted sites that fit, then that's definitively preferred.

Should the description be written in American or English (sic) English?

In most cases, american english will apply. The exception are categories specifically targeted at the UK, or other countries that use british spelling.

An anecdote: In the only application I got turned down for, the response e-mail showed that the reviewed misunderstood the category. The response was that the websites were not appropriate for that category. I immediately re-applied with the same URLs, same titles and descriptions, and a note pointing out that the category description was different than the reviewer had thought it was. This time I was approved. So getting everything right doesn't mean you'll necessarily be OK'd.

Copying the text you fill into the application form will allways be a smart thing, in case your application doesn't go through the first time for some reason ;-)
