Hello, the boss wants to get the site listed high asap. I just rebuilt the site and think it will work well with google next time it is spidered...

But he wants to submit to pay to get sumitted to "all" the search engines...

I am tyring to figure out which directories to pay for a listing in....

Things are so much more confusing than they were a couple of years ago when I did seo...

I would appreciate any input anyone has...

Thanks
Kenny

If he were my boss, and he wanted to get sites listed high in search engines (Google is obviously the most notable), I'd ignore pay-for-listing directories and negotiate links to the company on high PR pages on sites I could get them from at a good price. If I were his SEO, I could get his site a lot farther in search engines that way than buying links in directories. And probably get sacked as his SEO if I played the game of buying directory links.

Buying directory links is worth it *only* if the click throughs yield more sales and profits than the link cost. Whether this is the situation would require evaluating the specifics of the business.

Qualified by: as long as it's verified that those pages are actually passing PR to the sites they're linking to.

Also, disregarding the PR issue altogether it can't hurt to spend some intensive time finding links from topically related sites - regardless of PR, as long as they're quality and legit.

Pay for inclusion is per page unless it's a very big site, available with Ask/Teoma, AV, FAST and Inktomi. No paid inclusion with Google, they find you through links. Most all traffic will come from Google, Yahoo, MSN and AOL - Google and Ink have those covered.

ODP is free submit, but make sure to select the right category and follow their guidelines to the letter. Look through the category to get a feel for what's acceptable to the editor. ODP for sure, though it can take a while to get in. Also, some might disagree but I'd go for a Yahoo submission.

If he wants quick results and has budget, he might want to consider some PPC (Overture and AdWords) until regular listings come through with decent rankings.

Thank You!

What do you guys think of paying to submit to the Yahoo Dir, and the looksmart network?

Anyone here ever used those?

Of course. DO verify.
