Getting DMOZ to change placement

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any experience getting DMOZ to change the placement of a website. About 2 months ago, I submitted a travel site to DMOZ under a very general category, with it's main competitors. This page was already listed in an equivalent category on Yahoo!, so I figured it wouldn't be a problem getting listed with DMOZ. What they did still confuses me. They went to the index page of the site, then to a dynamically created page dealing with a very specific topic (one of many on the site), and listed our site under this category. I have written a few e-mails to the editors, but received no responses, and my re-submission attempts have been, thusfar, fruitless. As ODP powers many of the big boys, like AOL, I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to get them to change our category.

Keep trying. Keep emailing the category editor once every two- or three weeks. I'm in the same boat and have been unable to get DMOZ to respond to me in any way. My problem has been going on for over six months. Your success or failure here is pretty much up to a single individual category editor. I have gone beyond the category editor and gone to dmoz itself, no luck.

Maybe I should send a handwritten letter to DMOZ corporate? Don't laugh, now that I think of it, that's a good idea.

Not a good idea you guys. I'm an editor on DMOZ, and if I get an email asking to be placed, I get pretty annoyed. If it takes more than 2 weeks to get your site placed, then the editor is most likely on holiday! Or, your site is still there, but we've passed it around some to find the best category. Also, regarding the travel thing, which cat. was it? There's been some major work being done on DMOZ behind the curtains, becareful. I usually check for new sites to edit once per day, 9am (GMT+1).

One more thing. Keebler, I just noticed, you are registered FIVE times on ODP in different areas! Now, my friend, you were lucky to get such an editor, because most of us would put you in once maybe twice, but not 5 times! Also you get good placing, what's the problem?

We welcome all ODP discussions that are about the ODP. Personal site listing discussions need to be taken into email or other avenues.

The best way to update an ODP listing is by the official channels there. I've had great (cross fingers) luck submitting and updating (hundreds of listings for clients). I've only run into one problem editor, and that was fixed when the editor was let go.

I agree with Pshea. Go the official route and wait at least three weeks, then one email to the editor, if that doesn't work, go up the food chain to the next highest category all the way to a top level meta editor if need be. Folks can be very friendly over there. It ain't Yahoo (Thank Goodness).
