How do I get listed in many directories?

I notice my competition is listed in dmoz and all the other directories that feed off of dmoz. However my site is just listed in dmoz only. How do i get listed in all the others? My site has been listed in dmoz for 2 years.

There realy isn't anything you can do to get your site listed within the other DMOZ fed sites except wait. All DMOZ partner sites have their own schedule and time frame for picking up on new data.

2 years does however seam like quite a long time. A lot of the ODP clones where build then simply left. Their data is old, out of date and may never be updated.

If your site has been listed for 2 years I wouldn't be very optimistic. I seem to recall there was a thread on this same issue but I'm not having any luck digging it up. While it probably isn't likely to be very succesful you could always send the webmasters of those sites a friendly email stating that it would useful for their users to get a new rdf dump. Unless these sites only took a small niche that doesn't change much a 3-4 year old directory isn't likely to be very useful.

One of my sites was added to dmoz around the 30th september. The only back link at google is one from a dmoz clone - there since the first october days. Funny that neither the dmoz has been crawled by google since then nor the google dir updated. Anyways, i agree that most dmoz clones are years behind so it may take a while to see back links from them.

I doubt. Maybe at specialized directories that use just some of the dmoz categories ...

I was just wondering if i should move my listing to another category where my competitors are.

My competitors are beating me i believe because they all have about 100 backlinks from clone directories. Even though the PR of the clones is low i think it is because they are beating me with anchor text that come from the large quantity of clones.

Hmm... it also wondered me in the past why some of my competitors are listed at that many clones - even with fairly new sites. But i just ignore the fact like i ignore if someone spams his way to top. To much brain sex for nothing and you'll never know how and why and what.

However, you could try emailing the clone directories to get your site included there too. Just (politely) tell them how out of date they are. Maybe they pick a fresh rdf ...

But don't try to change or resubmit your listing at the dmoz. Never!

I finally figured out why my competition is listed in so many clones while my site isn't.

It is because my site is in a category 7 layers deep into DMOZ while my competition is only 4 layers deep. My guess is the clones only grab down only so far into DMOZ's directory, if you are too deep down then you don't get listed in the clones.

Google crawls page by page, so it can very well be that a lot of pages were crawled at DMOZ and only a few at the clone, but still the DMOZ page with the link to your site wasn't crawled recently. You should also not forget that the backlinks shown at Google are not that accurate. So maybe that DMOZ page was crawled, but it doesn't show up (yet).

As for the Google directory, that is a different story. Google uses the RDF dump and not the info collected by crawling the DMOZ pages. The category info shown in the SERPs is more recent but the Google Directory seems to be almost 6 months old. One day it will be updated.

Drumat5280, you better focus on things you can change instead of thinking of ways to get your page in clones with very old data.
