When is the best time to submit to DMOZ?

My attempts lately end up with the page failing to load or process..

Could someone please give me some advice as to when is the best time currently to try to submit sites to dmoz?

Which day of the week works best?

Which hour of the day?

Is it possible to sumit via another country?
cn.dmoz.org automatically forwards to dmoz.org when i try to submit. Is it possible to override this manually by typing in the url?

Thanks,
Chris

Unfortunatly a lot of us are seeing exactly the same thing. As for typing the url, this woulden't work because it has to pass the data from page to page.

The only thing to do is keep on trying.

Sorry I coulden't be of more help.

Mack.

Shucks :/

Might be able to spoof the submit if you made a mock form page and pointed the post to the correct URL. It seems all posts are going straight to dmoz.org though which is certainly creating a bottleneck :(

My submit today hangs at the exact same place every time. If you're using IE, I get 5 "green bar" loads then nothing happens. I've left it as long as 1 hour so far, should I consider the connection dead or still processing?

Have had similar problems in the past with DMOZ. If things are working OK, submissions are processed well inside a minute.

If the DMOZ submit form hangs for more than a couple of minutes, I just give up and try again (much) later.

Which day of the week works best?
Which hour of the day?

Just seems to be a matter of luck ...

I haven't been able to get DMOZ to work.

Maybe I should try at 4 AM on the U.S. east coast (1 AM on the west coast). Of course, at that time, the may be a bunch of people in Europe or Asia trying to submit.

I spent about six hours yesterday trying to submit, I couldn't get a single listing through unfortunately. I'm sending from Edmonton Alberta Canada. Has anyone had success lately?

I wonder if submitting from other geographical locations also plays a roll. I can't imagine at this point that it does as everyone seems to be routed to the same central processing center? Can anyone confirm whether this is true?

DMOZ's submission system is down...down and out. From what I have heard, it doesn't matter where or what time you submit - it won't work. They have some major problems with the submission script.

Anything new since this thread originated? I put the submission on the backburner and check maybe 1-2 times a week now. Still no luck here in getting past the hangs and actually having a submission processed.

Can we turn this thread into a poll? If you've been successful in submitting a site to dmoz, can you please post the date/time you submitted, the category (if allowed by WebmasterWorld), and from where you submitted from?

Thanks,
Chris

Given that a typical review time at dmoz is 3-6 months (sometimes faster, sometimes slower), I wouldn't get too hung up about whether you get to submit this week or next. Work on improving your site and getting other inbound links whilst the very small number of paid dmoz staff get on with solving the submit problem.

In the meantime, if you've previously submitted sites that are waiting to be reviewed, you can be happy that editors are managing to make significant inroads into unreviewed queues whilst the submit function is out of action.

Have just sumbitted a new site to DMOZ from the UK, so the submit function is back in action here.

Noticed while checking a few client submissions that the editors look to have been busy. Various sites have been shuffled into new categories.

Good advice John,

I have been trying to submit usually once or twice per day at current whenever I think about it or need a break. It's already been 3 weeks so I do want to get it in there. It doesn't really bother me trying periodically.

Unfortunately I've got no pending pages in dmoz right now so catching up on a backlog doesn't help me much :(

Storevalley,

I've heard the same thing about a lot of submissions getting shuffled around to more appropriate categories as well. Still nothing from this end, I'm tempted to set my alarm for hte middle of the night so I can give it a try far away from peak hours.

Catching up on a backlog means that you'll be submitting into a smaller pool of unreviewed sites. That's always helpful. :)

hah, yes true :P Now I cordially also invite dmoz to shut its doors down and start working on catching up again.

The fundamental submitters' paradox. :-) Everyone wants the system to work horribly for all submitters EXCEPT themselves. ;-)

I tried to submit a site last night and early this morn--I live on west coast--and still the submit page hung up.

I also checked the code for the submit page on W3G and it flunked big time.
