Forum Moderators: open
I wrote to the category editor a week ago asking him for his help getting listed, but have had no response from him either. Anyone have any advice how I can get listed? I can't afford to pay CPC anymore for Marketing.
Thanks
For another thing, if your marketing strategy is centered around receiving an ODP listing, you probably should revisit it.
DMOZ is the only way to get listed on Google aside from Google's paid programs correct?
No.
I would suggest you to read some Library threads in forum 3 and forum 12. Do you know link popularity? If your site has good number of incoming links from other well established sites then google will automatically index your site for FREE. It takes some time to get your link popularity going , but as I said earlier there are some very good threads on Link Development in forum 12. HTH :)
Right. It is possible to rank well without it, and as stated it can take a loooong time - specially in the competetive cats.
However you probably will find that getting listed in the local cats will be somewhat "easier". Remember it's not the magic bullit though.
In my small category I have over 50 sites waiting approval. When I get a chance to get in there and start reviewing sites, I simply choose one at random from the list.
What it comes down to is luck of the draw. If you have a quality site that pertains 100% to the category you submitted to, have a well written non-hyped relevant description, and you haven't submitted multiple times, then you are more likely to be approved immediately once an editor reviews your site and submission.
If you want, you can sticky the category to which you submitted to and I might be able to check the status of the site. No guarantees though, because I've only been editing for a week now.
Anyone have any advice?
Yes. If it is an important for a site that it be in DMOZ for good SEO (it isn't for all sites), then the only really effective way of speeding that process is for there to be many more DMOZ editors.
The only way to guarantee that, is to become one: that adds one more editor to the pool.
So the SEO on your site should have started maybe a year ago with your applying for, and becoming a DMOZ editor, and having added perhaps 500 sites in the categories you edit.
Note that I am not saying that you should aim to be the editor in the category you want a site listed. Just that the more active editors there are, the more sites get added, and everyone gains.
Think of it a bit like donating blood. I was told two months ago that I needed an operation, but there isn't enough donated blood to enable it. That's really hurting me. I've written to the blood bank manager asking for his help in getting me blood, but he hasn't replied. What can I do to get more people to donate blood?
if you want more people to donate time to improving DMOZ, then take the lead. If you don’t, then wait patiently.
