Does google own any power / responsibility in DMOZ?

Or google is simply another licensee of DMOZ data?

This might have been discussed here before, but when I did a search on google and dmoz, i got many other results and I could not find what I was looking for.

I just wanted to know if google owns anything in DMOZ, e.g. either providing dmoz with resources or in making policies at DMOZ? or google is just another licensee of DMOZ like many others on the net.

I am asking this because:

1) On dmoz's web site, there is a green circular icon in each category (on button right)..that icon's ALT text points you to google directory and upon clicking on that link one is forwarded to google directory.

2) When you click on directory tab on google, it shows dmoz as if it was google's directory.

Thanks

No, the ODP is hosted by netscpe/AOL and the software is owned by them. We link to Google since they have an enhanced version of the ODP (PR added) and the servers are sometimes (I think for example just now) even more up to date than our own.

Everyone can download the ODP data and open his own directory as long as he adds the necessary links to show where he has got the data from. See the help section on the DMOZ homepage.

If you look at enough editor profiles you will (or would at one time) find some Google employees that have fairly high level editor status there.
