one site is listed in many, and the other isn't

I have two sites that are listed in DMOZ. One of those sites is listed in many of the open directories, however the other site is just listed in the DMOZ (main one). Both sites are about 2 years old.

The difference shows up when I check for backlinks in ATW. One site shows all these backlinks to these open directories (too many to count) while the other shows only the main DMOZ backlink.

I am not sure how the one site got submitted to all these open directories. My question is how do I get the other site listed in all the directories?

Lots of directories take the dmoz RDF dump to put the dmoz database on their site - Google and Alexa are two high profile users. Anyone can do so - it's up to the sites individually.

Whether your site shows up in those directories depends on when they last updated their database from dmoz - some update very regularly, many still show copies from three years ago or more. In the directories that show as backlinks for one site, does your other site actually exist in those?

The traffic and PR benefit is virtually none from virtually all users of the dmoz RDF dump as their homepage PRs are too low to pass on anything to the listed sites.

Does Google consider dmoz clones as dupes or does it consider as actual "link" which can transfer PR?

I believe that this depends on how much they modify what they get from ODP. Those who use essentially unmodified content have PR zero (probably dups), the others have low PR.

There is not much difference between the two categories when it comes to transferring PR. The dups have zero to transfer. But the non-dups are not much better.

Today, dmoz.org has PR 9 and the category I am in has PR 4, which is 5 units below the top. So if a dmoz clone has PR 4 or 5 on their home page, not much is left by the time you go down the categories to where I am listed :(

Not only do clones give you almost no PR, they give you close to absolutely zero visitors. That, of course, excludes the mega clone: diretory.google.com :)

How about a total link value? Does it increase it in eyes of big G for ranking purposes?

I think it's unfair if they do count those links. If someone downloads full ODP's dump and posts it on their website, that does not mean that they specificaly choose to link to your site.

Both of my sites have very similar backlinks. There are both in a somewhat similar industry. However the one listed in all the directories has a PR5 and then other has a PR4.
