Unreviewed queue is a bit of a misnomer - unreviewed pool is better. I could order the queue at the bus stop in order of how long ago they arrived, how tall they are, whether they've got any money for a bus ticket etc. Similarly the dmoz unreviewed queue can be ordered by submission date, title or URL - different ordering is useful for different functions. The bus driver may find it helpful to order his queue with the people with money at the front, seeing as they're the only ones he'll let on the bus.

Within the pool of unreviewed sites, most editors are probably drawn early to the sites with guidelines-compliant titles and descriptions, particularly as these are usually something of a rarity. If you wrote your submission well then you've effectively put yourself at the head of the queue.

The editor that is going to review your site does not have to review the unreviewed sites in the order that they were submitted. They can be sorted in a number of different ways. It is far better to visualize the unreviewed sites as a pool. I cannot speak for other editors but my actions when looking at unreviewed sites are delete the obvious spam, junk etc then start reviewing (in no particular order) the sites that look to have the most guidelines compliant titles and descriptions then, if there is any time left, start reviewing those that look like they are going to need work on the title or description.

This is not to be taken as a general manner of editing, it is purely the method I use as an editor in both directories where I edit. Other editors may and do have their own methods.

Is there any way to get your status on dmoz? I have been waiting for over a month. How can you tell if you are accepted or rejected to dmoz? Run a search, your there, your accepted? =)

In dmoz time, a month is not a long period. There are many variables that also impact the timeline.

You may or may not have chosen the most appropriate category for your submission. If not, that likely will add to the time necessary for a final determination of whether your site is listed.

The suggested title and description you submitted may or may not be spot on with odp guidelines. If not, sites which are guidelines compliant will likely be addressed before yours.

The category you selected may or may not have a highly active editor in that cat or the cat immediately above it.

If you have minded your p's and q's, let it sit and move on to setting up other quality links in and out of your site.

You are right about searching for your site to see if it is accepted or not. You can't see if its still waiting for review or rejected though, you would have to ask the editors.

We would like to point you to a place where you can get that advice, but postings mentioning that forum get removed by the moderators here. Sorry, but we are unable to help you in any way in this place.

You were in the right place there to find out - ask them for clarification. :)

<edited> no need, your question has been clarified. :)

If anyone can sticky mail me the right area/person to contact to see the status of my site on DMOZ, that would be great and within the rules. =)

The deal with DMOZ is pretty simple: submit, wait three months, enquire, wait three months, enquire, wait three months, enquite, wait three months.

If you're lucky enough to get put straight in the good for you - but don't hold your breath. Just let it be and look for other directories. DMOZ isn't worth an ulcer.

humpingdan's message gives you a big clue - search on Google.

In that case the moderators should have paid closer attention to the subject line. ;)

Perhaps the moderators could include $this_specific_URL_that_we_may_not_name_here (http://***.********-****.***/) in this forum's charter, in the "ODP Notes" section? Then we could just refer to the charter, and everyone would be happy.

One advantage to having that URL in the charter is that it may discourage people from starting threads here asking about there ODP submission.

I see a lot of people complaining about how long it takes to get in dmoz and having problems finding out about their submission status.

There must be alot of people that simply are not taking time to read all the submission guidelines.

I have submitted 3 sites to D... in the last 3 months. All were submitted to different categories, all were commercial, and they were submitted a few weeks apart from each other.
All 3 sites were reviewed within 1 week. One site was rightfully rejected, and the other 2 were accepted, within a week.

The sites took about a month to appear in the results though. Before the site was updated into the results (and after it was accepted) I was able to find it in D... by doing a search on my title or descriptions keywords. I was also able to see the listing by typing in my .com address.

I have found R Z to be very helpful and was given a clear explanation of why one of my submissions was rejected. From what i can see and have experienced, there are a lot of dedicated people working hard on improving D.

...perhaps a bit off-topic but I managed to submit my site to the 'Japanese' section of DMOZ for the first time just three days ago. Until then (since twe months) the 'register' screen kept telling me that my site was 'already listed' or I was simply getting an error - I heard about a big Dmoz refurbishing, must be over now. Good news!
