Strange way to spam?

I apologize if this has been discussed, but I looked and didn't see anything. A strange link showed up in my referrer logs and when I traced it back, this is where it lead me: <url removed>

Is this a new way of getting advertising clients? I think it's pretty cheeky to use our logs to do this kind of thing.

It's sometimes called log spamming a way to get people who look at their log files to visit a site. Welcome to Webmaster World.

The funny ones are the domain name registration companies that try to disguise their logfile spamming as referrals from their whois pages.

Oooooh look, somebody just whois'd all my domains at the same time.....
