Hi everyone. I have been put under some serious pressure by the man to find some cheap preferably free travel directories just so I may bash out some quick submissions today. Could you guys just give me a guide and maybe tell me some of your favourites. Thanks guys

Skylo,

you could try a search for "travel directories" at Dmoz.org - I think that the Open Directory Project lists a fair number of directories.

"just as an aside, id be intrested to know the address fo your travel site!"
So I'm in the travel industry, who cares that gives one a million variables to work with to try guess what I do in the industry.
Anyway nuff of that. Travelsite I did look in DMOZ for "travel directories" and the singular and am just not happy with the results. I have trawled through them and really can't find lots of quality sites. There are some but alot do suck. What I would really like to know is what directories have members tried and had good experience with.

That would be of great help:)

Can't say that we get that much traffic from free directories - search engines account for the vast majority of traffic. You'll probably get as much (probably more) traffic from doing lots of link exchanges with sites than with free directories (unless anyone knows different?)

I realise that Travelsite, my boss guesses that we might rank better if we are in a few directories. My plan is that some directories like the ones I have already submitted to do not require a reciprocal link so they are good inbound links from directories with PR6. But that is a whole other topic. So there is my ultimate goal and why I posted this here. Anymore suggestions would be appreciated.

Other than searching through Google for "travel directories" and such like, none spring to mind. However you could look at magazines. In the UK theres 2 or so (quaterly?) magazines that are basically listings of sites. You also get "free books" attached to the front of a lot of net magazines - again these are often simple listings of sites. From what I've seen these things often like to list country specific directory sites.
