I came across this page on the DMOZ site: [dmoz.org...] which defines 301 redirects as temporary and 302's as permanent. I image this is a typo!

Does anyone have any experience on how DMOZ treats 301 redirects (redirecting from domain.com/widget to widget.com).

It does appear to be a typo. On the linked page with all errors -- [dmoz.org...] -- it is listed correctly. It doesn't matter too much in this case as the instruction is the same for both (Update to the new URL).

Well spotted Seeker.

I wonder if Dmoz actually update the url when they hit a 301?

In answer to that last question, dmoz does not automatically update URLs when an error is encountered. Those descriptions of error codes are intended as advice to the human editors at dmoz who need to figure out what to do when a URL that is listed in the directory returns an error.

Yeah, I assumed that there would be a human decision somewhere in the works. However, is there some kind of automated flagging system that tells that catagory editor that there has been an error returned by a site and then they take the appropriate action? I know they have Robozilla, but I'm curious to know what their standard procedure is in dealing with 301's 302s etc. More out of personal interest than my own current scenario. I might leave it for a few months and see what happens and if nithing happens I will put in a manual request for them to chenge the urls.
