The ODP is upgrading the dmoz.org system, adding several new servers and a new, re-architected backend. For several months now, the public submission engine has been tightened, partly as a measure against automated submission engines which are bombarding the system, but also to preserve connections and CPU cycles for the benefit of editors working on existing submissions.

This is far from the only problem facing editors and submitters alike for the moment, and this isn't the first thread on this matter :).

For now, unfortunately, all I can suggest is submitting at an off-peak hour, i.e. after the U.S. has gone to sleep but before Europe has woken up.

As part of the upgrade process, the edit side of the ODP, and with it the ability for the general public to submit sites is likely to be turned off tomorrow, and will likely remain off until the end of the month. Come back in July and see if things are any better then.

I don't think it is even the tenth thread on this matter.

May I suggest that the mods start splicing threads together, as is done in the Google forum?

In spite of the much lower volume we have the same problem, too many repetitive whiny threads, too little useful content.
