Don't know whether anyone else has noticed this here. I did a search on the forums for "spotjockey" first, but didn't see any postings.

I've noticed that "spotjockey" (UK directory) have purchased "www dot dmoz.co.uk" and 301 redirected to their main spotjockey site.

Isn't that a bit cheeky?!

Their directory seems a bit lame. Also I saw on the threads on here that are related, that spotjockey seems to have a bit of a reputation for spam.

As a user I view domain "claim jumping" as rather unethical, but so long as SpotJockey doesn't claim any relationship with the ODP or dmoz.org, I don't think AOL will expend much energy to stop them. Many dmoz-related country tlds are in the hands of editors or former editors or outside third parties; others are unclaimed due to restrictions on ownership or pure lack of interest. It doesn't really affect us.

I'm sure the denizens of this board will confirm from their referrer logs that visits from dmoz.org are quite rare-- most users encounter ODP data via licensees such as Google and probably have never even heard of dmoz.org . Webmasters and SEOs would (should) know better; if they're seeking a listing in the ODP they'll find the real dmoz.org; if they say "hey, what's this" and seek a listing in SpotJockey in addition to or instead of an ODP listing, it doesn't hurt the ODP in any way, being non-profit and open content.
