Oh boy. Become a Zealot, and get a free T-shirt?

As for the ODP, it's still become an editor, and be hated and despised. :(

Just found out about this from an e-mail from Zeal. Check their home page. If you sign up and submit 10 sites in May, or are already a Zealot and contribute 10 new sites, you qualify for a free T-shirt. Wheeeee. :) As for the ODP, neither new editors, nor existing ones, can get any free apparel. However, by becoming an ODP editor, or continuing to be one, you can have the privilege of being widely considered at best lazy and incompetent, and at worst totally corrupt and dishonest, by webmasters dissatisfied their site wasn't listed quick enough. Hmm...perhaps the ODP should send all newly appointed metas a flak jacket? ;)

Being an ODP editor won't get me a T-shirt, but I have learned new and interesting things. I could have gone my whole life and not realized "bailiwick" was a real word, or that in the Bailiwick of Guernsey, the head of state is "The Duke of Normandy, Her Majesty the Queen". :)

I have a dmoz.org t-shirt. Dmoz has given out t-shirts and stickers in the past. Don't think that's gonna happen much anymore though. I'd rather see money spent on servers and staff.

In more than 3,5 years I have never managed to get even a sticker -- I assume ODP Staff decided that sending stuff over to Italy was too expensive :-)

Having recently bought a Brother Galaxy 2100 (sewing/embroidery machine) to my wife, I converted a GIF image of a colourful homemade ODP sticker and had it embroidered on my favourite bomber jacket. Now that's something unique... :-)

Lucky bugger. They haven't sent me diddly. :( My guess is that you are correct that this won't happen in the future. My guess is that AOL wishes that they could just kill the ODP off. My working theory why they haven't is that they figure the bad will it would generate with all of the pissed off ex-editors badmouthing them is a greater liability. And, while there is a lot of bitching about the ODP here, webmasters with listed sites wouldn't be pleased to see the ODP go. That is even more bad will. The ODP is AOL's white elephant. ;)

ODP used to have a booth at SES back in the day. They had T-shrts, mouse pads and related items. Haven't seen anything like that recently. Sometimes they don't make a "public" appearance there at all anymore.

Selling that stuff could fun new equipment.

Sounds like its time to come up with 10 new content pages for Zeal.
