The small fee was set at a level "as indicated from a post on the webmaster forum" some time ago - post was about "how much would somebady pay for an impulse buy / purchase"
The directory uses Gossamer Threads Links SQL, pages use static html (good for search engine indexing) except for the "search" function.
Site title / brand / url is "easy to remember" + "brand" + "trade mark registered"
Site url is a 6 letter URL ******.com
We have developed / built a directory, for which we have optimised all the category pages etc....The site now has a growing user base - 300 visitors per day from search engines, as a result of the array of search terms used - almost 3,000 keywords & phrases.
We have "base - populated" the directory, some categories with 10 - 20 sites, some with 100 - 200 sites - pages.
We have about 50 categories, some of these have many sub categories for regional & local / town / city / region sub categories.
Any ideas - suggestions?
As "fellow" webmasters - I'm hoping that you can give some feedback.?
Is their any way you can prove to your listed clients that they are receiving hits via your site, as you could say something like first year free, and then pay the yearly fee or be knocked off, or offer a whole page dedicated to their site for a fee.
It may be an idea to take off you hit counter at the bottom too.
Apart from that im not sure - maybe add a few images to make the site more "stayable" but the site is easy to use and looks good, hay maybe the fee is to Cheap, try increasing the price!
anyone else have any ideas
Andy
I offer PFP above free listings (using GT's L2 perl). The system works well, but the directory is a backend for sites which have a reputation for delivering significant traffic and that helps them make up their mind. Frankly, the impulse buying days seem to be nearly gone.
PFP = pay for placement
BACKEND = often used to describe any system that provides a technical function (often unseen) except for the results that may be displyed.
eg. a search engine may use an sql query into its database to carry out a search - the visitor will see the results displayed - but does not see the sql query applied to the database - this would put the script + database as the "backend"
driving a car, the engine + gearbox provide motion - the engine / gearbox could be called "backend" systems for the car - you see / feel the motion but do not see the engine/gearbox
IMPULSE BUYING = when you go shopping, usually you have a purposeful purchase to make - during the shopping trip - you may see something you like and you buy it, that would be impuls buying, buying on impulse.
eg. when you buy fuel for your car, when paying for your fuel you may see a "chocolate bar" - the fuel was pre planned - the chocolate was impulse buying.
