Do you think this is on purpose?

I've been going through some of Australia's business directories adding my site, and I'm coming across quite a few (half at least) which will not actually let you submit a site because the addsite.cgi (or similar file) is missing or broken. When I look at these directories they all seem remarkably empty. Whats the deal here? Do people just start these things and neglect them? Or do you think they are breaking or removing the addurl on purpose?

It could well be that they are all using the same (broken) script and either don't know it's broken (because they haven't gone through the process themselves) or don't know how to fix it.

Hi Dave

Did you ever had any kind of lead at all from any of these localized business directories? Most I have tried in the past never did anything for me. Never heard from them back. Makes you wonder if they keep your link longer than a week or two...

I don't subscribe to those anymore. If somebody on this board ever had any success with any of there, please will you sticky me...

Thanks

To be honest, no, I don't see any significant traffic from any of the directories we're currently listed in. Having said that, the traffic that does trickle in from some directories converts into sales well, but only a couple of well known directories have this effect.

I think they've been hammered with thousands of spam submissions from automated software, so they just delete the form processing script.

Hey, Dave - what are those directories, if you don't mind sharing them?
