Could anyone provide some pointers on what dmoz puts emphasis on when choosing new editors?

thanks

1) that you would like to help contribute towards building the largest human-edited directory on the web.

2) that you are attracted by being part of a large, voluntary and sociable community.

3) that you are able to appraise a site independently of your own personal affiliations.

4) that you can understand and follow the guidelines given at dmoz.org/guidelines .

5) that you are honest enough to declare your site affiliations and to avoid giving your own site preferential treatment.

6) that you are applying for an appropriate category:
a) around 20-50 listed sites in total, including subcategories.
b) spammy categories are best avoided, such as online pharmacies, gambling etc.
c) your home town or a subcategory of it is a good place to start.

NOT

1) that you just want a quick way of listing your own site.

2) that you want to remove or otherwise scupper your competitors' listings.

Try reading what advice they give on the DMOZ site [dmoz.org]

Your application will be viewed by a meta. Reviewing editor applications is not (I gather) a popular pastime with metas, so they need to be in good humour to accept you ;)

The gist of meta postings here at WebmasterWorld is that they tend to be accepting a greater percentage of applications than they did in the past.

I'd recommend being totally honest about your affiliations and making some comment in your app. that you are committed to being fair, etc. I got accepted on same day I applied.
