Large Directories

Do SE's really recognise being in these as a "Link"?

If I paid for a weblink within an extremely large site, where people actually have to input pretty specific details for our company and weblink to be listed, and when it is listed a number of other companies and their weblinks are also listed, does this really count as a "link" thst is recognised by SEs. Research as to current directories we are in hasn't shown that we are properly linked with them.

Thanks :)

Google only tends to show links from pages of PR 4 or more when you do a link search on Google

I am not sire what exactly you mean by that. Is it that they do not show up in Google, or is it that the page has failed to add your link?

Check how they're linking to you. A lot of directories don't link directly to your URL, they bury it under tracking codes and spiders don't "see" it. In such a case you'll get traffic directly from the directory (!) but there won't be any boost to your link popularity or Page Rank.

Also, try checking your backlinks in AllTheWeb ... they usually show more links than Google does.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Cornwall, I mean that when I do the backlinks for these directories, we are not shown as one!

Check the PR of the page that your link is on in each directory. If that page on the directory is 3 or less, then it will not show on the back link check.

Which directories do actually link direct and give a PR boost?
