I have been repeadely trying to post to the google directory (via dmoz) for weeks now, with no success.

There are various postings on webmasterworld documenting this problem, i've tried many options of different ISP's, firewall configurations, Norton etc....

This sounds so lame, but are you a kind sould who could spare 30 seconds and submit the form for me?! (I would mail you the title, description etc.)

It would be sooooo appreciated.

OK, send me the data by stickymail and I will give it a try.

You are not alone. ODP look like they are having major problems.

I submitted our site a long time back, and it never got listed (although people sing it's praises elsewhere). I have recently tried several times again, but the form does nothing (just hangs) and it is not my browser of firewall for sure.

My brother applied to be a dmoz editor, got a reply "Yes we are interested, but apply for a lower catgeory". He did this, and was told the same thing. So he applied at a bottom category and then heard nothing. He emails them twice, no reply. If they were interested enough to say reapply, why not either the courtesy of a final "yes" or "no"?! Does this mean it got lost, forgotten, or canned (like my site submission)?

A few days ago I posted on the Google forum and actually got the help of GoogleGuy (he canned some serious Spam for me and the net in general). I got a stickymail from a member here claiming to be a senior editor for ODP. They picked up on a reply by someone else saying these Spammers had also Spammed ODP and asked me for the details. I replied and said I did not think they had Spammed ODP, but here is what I sent Google anyway. I did however point them to an area in ODP where they had been Spammed rotten. I also asked what my brother should do. I got nothing back from them. I even wonder if they were an ODP editor, or whether it was just a ruse to get the Spammer's URL's, as most people seemed keen to copy them!

At first I thought that all ODP editors were just plain rude, but I guess there are not that many of them, and it looks like they are fire fighting all the time. So, I guess, we have to keep on trying.

I have no suggestion, except to keep trying and hope Google does buy them (I think that would solve *many* Spam problems in Google at the same time, as ODP biased results could be used for generic searches, Google biased results for more specific terms).

Hi GrinninGordon, have you or your brother inquired over at the Resource Zone? A link is available in the Directories Charter [webmasterworld.com]. You can ask about the status of your submission and your brother can inquire about his application to become an editor.

Matters of this nature are best directed to the aforementioned Resource Zone.

The problem mentioned by matthew2003 looks more like the firewall/browser problems described in the threads dmoz - I get an error when i click on submit [webmasterworld.com]
and Update URL with DMOZ Open Directory [webmasterworld.com]. He gave me the URL, title, description, email address and the page on DMOZ where he wants his site to be added. My first try with Netscape 7.0 and the firewall enabled, was successful. So it can be done. Of course I don't know if Internet Explorer would have failed.
