Ranking in ODP passed elsewhere?

This is just something off the top of my head. Does the ranking in ODP matter?

I mean, it matters to get into the database, obviously, but does the ranking you achieve in ODP matter to the other sites it feeds?

I have a lousy ranking in ODP, but some really good rankings in other database that are fed by ODP which makes me think it doesn't matter.

However, I understand the arguement that if you have a good description in ODP, then that good description will be fed to other databases, which should increase your ranking in them.

Any input?

The search engines that are fed by ODP will send their own spiders to spider your site and they will rank it themselves. For example, AOL will send it's own spider to your site.

Thanks, Benj. I knew that, but wasn't sure if the ranking of ODP played any part of the algo for others.

Thanks!

I haven't noticed ODP ranking to matter elsewhere, except perhaps that the name of the category your site is listed under can help boost you for that particular keyword. This should particularly be true for theme based engines.

As I understand it, ODP's search function is designed primarily to help their editors rather than being a conventional "ranking". Any search engines who use their data know this and therefore use their own algo.
