Alexa Adds ODP to Homepage

Alexa has ODP/DMOZ browse implemented and it looks like Amazon.com

Alexa's front page looks a little different today. It has ODP/DMOZ. Clicking around, it looks a LOT like Amazon.com, and the results can be sorted by traffic, reviews, 'n' stuff.

Interesting. Looks like Alexa is moving close & closer to the 'consumer friendly' portal...wonder when / if more 'joe users' will start using this thing?

unfortunately, Alexa sorts the ODP data by their ranking numbers (ala Google).

This is going to lead to even greater misuse of Alexa's data.

Reminds me a bit of Yahoo! before they started to push the directory further and further away from 'casual view' on the home page...

Its a pity they use a redirect rather than direct linking. Coulda given my page rank a bit of a boost.

It's pretty horrid actually.. they could have done a much better job if they displayed it more like the Google directory.. it's too difficult to see what's in the categories like this.

I like the premise of the idea, but the results are very skewed (in terms of popularity). Must be de-bugging.

I like alexa more now, although amazon style (which isnt bad) the information and charts provided including screenshot make me feel my sites special espicialllly after someone reviews my site and it gets stars!@

When you read the alexa reviews, you can see that webmasters have been priming the pump...

As of a couple weeks ago Alexa made a change. Now, when you write a review, your email address has to be validated by Alexa AND, Alexa will delete any prior reviews from email address for that site. Ouch.

That should cut down on the noise to signal ratio.

Guess I'll have to sign up for some more hotmail email addresses :-)

Imagine if these reviews end up being hosted by Amazon.com (Alexa's corporate parent.) You'd have to have a valid Amazon.com account before writing a review. When reading reviews you could click through to see all reviews written by any reviewer... and that person's wish-list, name, location, the whole sha-bang.

I noticed an odd update to DMOZ, and the results combine into Alexa.

DMOZ: They've finally done some editting to a category I was in. I had two requests because I was listed twice in one category. One was to delete an old version (old url) and the other was to add "www." to the current version (new server defaults to the "www." version).

However, if I search for my site keywords, I get the old pre-change results. Seems that the directory and the search are accessing different builds? Or perhaps it's a transition.

And when I do the search on Alexa, I see the two pre-change results plus the current ones and more, aparently a mix of google and dmoz listings (?).

Alexa is showing the full contact details for the domain on the site's details page. Ugh. I don't think I'm happy about that, having my name, address, phone number, and email address splashed about to random browsers.

Contact them and they will change the information. Took a week or two.

There should be a link on your site's alexa page which allows you to update and/or correct your site's contact information.

It's just nice to see someone like alexa - besides Google holding up the ODP. With aol's recent report, everyone is a bit apprehensive about the ODP's futur prospects.
