Hi,

I am almost finished with a new site and have a DMOZ submission question.

I will be using sub domains to segregate my content. Example www.domain.com is the main URL but I will also have www.subdomain1.domain.com, www.subdomain2.domain.com, etc..

Can I only do one submission total or can I submit, to different appropriate sub directories, for each sub domain?

TIA,

Brian

If each has unique content that is useful for the category, then they may be accepted.

You should note on your submissions that you are submitting sub domains to different categories.

I did got many sites listed in different categories by submitting different internal sections of site. Like www.domain.com/gizmo/ and www.domain.com/widget/ .

Both the gizmo and widget sections offered rich unique content and services about the topics. I believe that as long your site can really contribute to a category it will get listed whathever if you use third level domains or regular sub folders.

Agree with JOAT & Macguru.

Personally I design with DMOZ in mind - always.

Rather than developing a site/subsite etc. and then attempting to fit to DMOZ categories, I preemptively seeking out DMOZ categories and design/redesign sites around them.

Topical holes must be filled - mountains of similar content in many cases -- "need not apply".

www.domain.com/gizmo/ and www.domain.com/widget/

I think what you will find is inconsistency due to "humans". Some editors will accept deep links like these, some will not. Some for good reasons, some for bad reasons.

Look at the rejections you may get on deep links and try to decide if it was "fair". If not make a really good case for inclusion and take that up,

Remember that if www.domain.com/gizmo/ and www.domain.com/widget/ have a common theme (i.e. "gizmo" is a page that sells knives and "widget" is a page that sells spoon), you will only get one listing in a broader category.

Deeplinks are added only for radically different content (i.e. "widget" is a page that sells toasters and "gizmo" is a page that sells motorcycles).
