Adding to Dmoz Directory

where to add to dmoz

Hi every body,

Some time ago i think I heard sometimes submitting from different search engines which are connected to Dmoz can have the site indexed faster, Does any body have experience about this , any suggetions?

Shall I add site to open directory from AOL ,Netscape or go directory to DMOZ

Just go straight to Dmoz and follow the instructions there. Sometimes the categories change and the clones don't always have the current categories.

This is not correct. No matter what search engine or directory you submit from, all submissions end up in the corresponding queue at DMOZ awaiting the editor of that category -- or a higher up -- to evaluate it.

Hi There,
I would submit directly to DMOZ if i could, but I everytime i try I get the damn "could not determine your ip address, please refresh the page and try again" message.

It is possible to get round this by submiting through a third party site?

The IP thing was nailed down to a version of IE, had the same problem worked fine with Netscape.

where it was still being blamed on ISP issues

I have checked it with netscape (many different versions of) and still get the same.

can you tell me which version of IE was being fingered?

Can only tell you I'm running IE 6.0 Netscape 7.0 if it helps my ISP is NTL.

Was having the same problem but I heard it was a IE prob and as soon as I submitted with Netscape it went fine, maybe this was a fluke.

I believe in some cases it is IE that is the problem and in others it is the fact that the ISP is using proxy servers (I believe there can also be problems if you're using a firewall).

The message should have said (in addition to the comment that it couldn't determine your IP address) that your submission was being sent to a holding area to be manually verified.

Matt, if you get that message, DON'T resubmit. And don't worry. That submittal was received, and (except for a delay in the "peculiar IP Addresses" holding tank) will be processed just like any other submittal.

With respect, last time I had this problem with DMOZ submissions, the error message did ask me to resubmit.

Have DMOZ actually changed the message?

Nope, No firewall

caching is disabled on all the browsers I have installed. I'm pretty sure it's the ISP (Freeserve Anytime) that is the problem.

Yes, that is your problem, I use Freeserve and was able to demonstrate (by eliminating all the other variables) that Freeserve caching was what caused DMOZ to reject.

Using another ISP to connect got round the problem

No, the message hasn't changed. I have heard that it is a generic message, used by a LOT of different scripts, and can't easily be changed. But it is misleading. Please ignore it.

Don't resubmit. You can trust me: I'm one of the people who do the quick cleanup of those submittals. (In fact, I'm working on URLs beginning with "O" in another browser window.)
