editor's profile in odp is indexed

how is this possible?

I always thought that se's do not spider bookmarks and editor-profiles of ODP-editors - until I found this one here:

should i become now an editor to get such a site? :)

Oh all profiles are indexed, you will see a link to the profile from each dmoz category that they edit, and the higher up you come (category wise), the more PR will be given to your profile.

it's really unbelievable, there are sites with only a few backlinks, but because of getting such a link from an editor-profile they all have PR7!

no dumpy, you can only have one site in your profile, the links in your bookmark are not spidered for sure!

Simple solution....become an editor under many alias's! No one comes and knocks on your door.

Being anonymous is way of life on the net.

This is the greatest method of gaining competitive advantage in GOOGLE that has ever been discovered ...and it isn't considered WRONG!

I wonder how many editors have multiple accounts? I know that many former editors have admitted having them.

Ex-editors having multiple accounts is very common. That's one of several good reasons for them to be ex-editors, isn't it?

KC, I do not think Dumpy advocates a misuse of the ODP. He points out a potential point of misuse.

Nevertheless, this discussion is rather futile. Of course everybody can set links to any sites, and if it's done on a page with high PR than the linked site is going to profit.
So what?
ODP editors are supposed to do objective editing, they are not supposed to favour sites they have an individual interest in.
If they don't adhere to that basic guideline than that's abuse. Has been discussed to death here.

I guess what you are saying is ODP editors have a a certain amount of power. Nothing really new.

A regular bumpkin who signs up as an editor won't get a PR 8 page. It seems only meta editor profiles have a PR 8 - the lower down the chain you go the lower the PR. As in all cases, it also is a matter of backward links. Since metas are the most senior editors, and are generally listed as editors in several TOP categories (which themselves have a PR of 8 or higher) it is natural that their profiles have a high PR.

The average editor, even one with several categories, has PR of between 3-5.

I seem to remember highly placed people even have their bookmarks crawled. In any case it must be wonderful for those in the consulting business to be so powerful. And, of course sites one consults with would naturally appear VIGOROUSLY all over DMOZ. They are in a position to make or break sites with the stroke of a key.

rafalk's point should be emphasized. Getting a DMOZ profile as a SEO tactic would require thousands of edits and months/years of dedicated work to DMOZ to get to be a meta. At a much lower level it could easily be an effective tactic to a degree... being an entry level DMOZ editor could get your site a PR4 all by itself. The end of Western Civilization that is not.

I had to scratch my head on this one.. which was "how the heck does Google know an editor's seniority"?

Of course it's simple, a senior editor like a meta will tend to be named on more categories (at the bottom) and higher ranking categories (e.g. Society, Computing, Business etc).

Anyway, if an someone is the named editor for hundreds of thousands of ODP entries and has edited tens of thousands of those entries themselves, on the world's most significant web directory, does that make them (and their profile pages) in some way important? Ummm well yeah :)
