Hi all
I have been participating in a few ODP threads lately. In several of them, I am shall we say, "grumpy" about the ODP.
Last night I came across something which tuned me up.

I had requested a change in location within the directory. It was done quickly by the editor. I saw the proof last night.

There has been no change yet in the cat when you use a search word in ODP.
But when I actually drilled down to the cat, there it is. And there is a date at the bottom of the page which shows when it was done. I can sleep now 'cause things will move soon. Top of the list too. What fortune.

I would like to say thanks to the volunteer who took the time to implement the change and let me know. I will write him.

The change was implemented Oct. 24th. No change in search listing yet.
I mention this for a reason. I would like to hear from anyone who has a site refreshed in the ODP since then.
Has the directory refreshed since? I think that it has.

Bye for now, Duhboy :)

Glad to hear you got your change.

The ODP site search function always lags behind the cat changes. Think I remember hearing it was more behind than usual recently. But didn't know it was 6 weeks off.

If you're wondering about when Google will reflect this, check the cache for that cat's page & your backlinks. If the change was Oct 24 or earlier, G may have indexed the new change already. It will probably be another month or 2 until the change is reflected in the G Directory.

The ODP used to produce a new dump every week. Technical problems mean that the new dump hasn't been produced for a couple of months. The problems are being fixed, but the new dump failed again a few days ago (with a lot less errors than last week). See: [dmoz.org ] and [dmoz.org ] and [dmoz.org ] for more.

The Google Directory used to take a copy of the RDF towards the end of each month. There has been no new RDF to take for the last couple of months. The Google Search Engine spiders dmoz.org anyway, so it has been adding some new sites to the SE database during that time.

Hi again
The ODP editor wrote back to me with a few possible reasons as to why the change has yet to be implemented. He suggests checking my disk cache for stale files etc. No changes.
Thanks again ODP editor and those who participated in this thread.

I hope that the change is reflected soon. Almost seven weeks now since the site changed cat.
Anyone have anything to add? I'm going to add to this thread only when a change does take place so people can take a measure of sorts.

Thanks and bye for now, Duhboy.
