Dmoz editor makes me smile :-)

I bet their client's sites did not have to wait like me :-)

I wondering why a site has not been listed I have to smile,

I look again at the categories, yes I selected the right one, I look again at the site, yes basically all the required stuff yet still no listing .. hmm dig a little deeper send an enquiry email to the editor one cat up, dont expect a reply .....

checking more .. ah the editor does work in this field, hmm they work for competitors of my client .. the competitor (the editors client) is listed in the higher category (and higher PR category) .. twice .. once prominently at the very top of the category ....

Human nature being what it is I can't really blame the editor for this the temptation must be there I suppose.

However that I can discover this evidence in 10 minutes makes me wonder how long it should take them to review my submission and perhaps add it .. or at least a quick courtesy email - "sex and travel"

Of course I would say that the products and service on offer from mine are way better technically than those on offer from their client - :-)

Hope it made you smile too.

I've thought before than an editor was ignoring my site and another site got listed. And it turned out that the editor of my category if there was one wasnt attending to it and i kept seeing more sites being added. Once I became an editor I checked out the category logs and my site wasnt intentionally being ignored, attention was brought to other sites in the directory wether it was DMOZ robot attention or it was someone e-mailing an editor, or a site was listed in more than one category. :P Not always are you being ignored - of course there are crooked people in every walk of the world and this may be the case with your site :P

Mark_A, as I have implored in what seems like every single thread in this forum, please report abusive behavior [dmoz.org] to any ODP meta-editor [dmoz.org] so that it may be investigated.

Hi EliteWeb, I am not that bothered, it just amused me that the editor is doing pretty well for one of their clients, and I dont blame them for that.

Had I known that when I sent my follow up email I would definately have copied staff as well to hope that at least someone else saw it. Just in case like :-)

No sweat ...
Its not on a paar with the hypocracies of our leaders :-( oops little bit innapropriate .... scratch that .

Hi choster thank you for your post.

I am not really claiming that there is abuse, I just was amused to see this when it seems to be taking me an age. I will await a reply to or action on my follow up email to the editor of the category above.

I will however not hesitate to drop you a line if I think things are being fishy (now that I have noticed this possible conflict of interests) so thank you for the link.

The existence of a "possible conflict of interest" does not mean for sure that the editor is being abusive.

I and my client were simply dissapointed the site was not listed, Yahoo editors added it within two days and corrected an error in their description within a day or too as well.

Most other quality sites we contacted have also been quick to react, the most recent, yesterday, added a link within an hour and their PR is higher than either of the suitable dmoz categories for this business.
