Submitting a translated site to ODP

is a different language counted as a mirrored site

We have our site listed in the ODP. We just recently translated it into German and I've merely gone ahead and submitted the German version to the ODP's german category.

IS this within the rules of ODP submission? Its the same info, but in German so I don't see that it could be a problem...

Of course you can submit it to the German ODP, try totranslate it in more languages you can so you can submit the site in every ODP language section.

Yes, and well accepted!

Some editors list your home page (www.yoursite.com) and other editors list your index language page (maybe www.yoursite.com/germanindex.html).

I do not know if there is a rule or not about this.

While there is wide variation in implementation, "gateway" pages which point to various language versions are commonly listed (once in each applicable language) in favor of the deeper, language-specific home pages.

One reason is for link stability; better to list canada.gc.ca because next week, canada.gc.ca/main_e.html may turn into canada.gc.ca/english.jsp . Another is because the end user browsing the directory in one language may in fact prefer another-- for example, a Hong Kong expat living in Malaysia may be familiar with a directory licensee of World/Bahasa_Melayu , but given a choice would pick the Cantonese version of a site listed in that directory over the Malaysian version.

If the alternative language links on a site are relatively obscured, however, the casual browser might not even notice that they exist-- and think the listing was erroneous and a waste of their time. Therefore, ODP lists www.asahi.com/english/ in the English section of the directory instead of www.asahi.com, which is listed only in the Japanese section.
