DMOZ editor biased in favour of his own sites

What can I do?

I work in a very competitive area and dmoz is an import factor in my search engine campaign. However the editor of the main DMOZ category for my market is also one of my main competitors.

He has at least 10 different sites in the category a with great titles and descriptions, I have one site with a rubbish title.

This is not the spirit of DMOZ. Is there anyway to contact a senior editor? I can't see an obvious way on the site.

If you truely feel abuse is going on, then by all means, report it. I'd suggest visiting the resource-zone.com Forum, and create a new post asking for a Meta to contact you regarding potential abuse. Whatever you do, don't post any specific details in the thread, regarding the editor or the sites. One of the Metas should reply and contact you for more info and then look into the situation. It is my understanding that ODP takes Editor Abuse very seriously.

Hi Matt - Solutions:
go up one cat, mail the editor. Go another cat up, mail the editor. Look around at dmoz.org, there are email addresses provided.

I did this some time ago - just keep posting higher and higher.

DMOZ - like anything - is open to abuse, but it is difficult to rise through their ranks without being honest.

I'd do what kstprod says. There are metas who read at resource-zone, and I can't believe considering this is a serious allegation this will be ignored. As for the title your site was listed as, ordinarily that should be pretty straightforward from what is actually on the page. Since this is I presume a commercial cat, usually the title will be the name of the online business. Arguing about descriptions tends to be more difficult, as this necessarily is somewhat subjective.

Don' bother - just sit back and work on your business. I just had this experience and nothing whatsoever will get done to the abusing editor. You'll only bring attention to your own site and get screwed in the process by being removed or having your listings made useless for searches.

Thanks for your advice everyone.
I've settled for exerting gentle pressure on the editor. Have several sites now included. It would seem that the editor would rather let me in than lose sites himself.

At the end of the day DMOZ is still failing, and has far too much influence. I'm hoping Google will see the light!
