I am certain I posted the URL in the right category; I did so twice. I am also certain I did not spam or use advertising language when posting my URL and description.
I really don't know what to do next anymore.
Is there anyone with a bright idea? If you're looking for the URL; it's not the one in my profile, but another one that I hoped I could use as a business card, but as long as I haven't appeared in a DMOZ listing, Google will rank this site very low (it's not even coming up in the PR toolbar).
My tip is to step up a level and contact the editor for that category.
Example:
Top/Travel/Flights
then you contact the editor in
Top/Travel
Also it seems like DMOZ is doing a big "reorganization" and that's why it takes a little bit longer that ususal.
So that implies that you can't rely soleley on an ODP listing as a strategy for promoting a site.
If you eventually get in: Great! If not: what's your plan then?
There are lots of links from everywhere you could get in the meantime - don't occupy yourselfes with waiting.
It's supposed to choose from existing sites. It's not suposed to list each and every site.
I knew that, and I did have a "plan B", but DMOZ is the easiest and as I am a lazy sob ;), I was really frustrated not having been listed yet. Besides, I am a bit reluctant to really ask for reciprocal links--I often feel I have little to offer; after all there are a few million sites out there, so mine is just a small pebble in a VERY large pond...
Nevertheless, there's something wrong with DMOZ. If you search for "mysite", you won't find it, not even if you spell it "my site" or "mys ite", or whatever. You really have to go look into the categories you submitted to. I actually did that every time I went over to look without any luck, but a few minutes ago--right after the post, sorry--I saw my site listed, finally. It was spelled "my site", although the "official" name for it is "mysite".
But I'm not complaining. Waiting as long as July; now that would make me really nervous, nutsandbolts!
The reason why you have to go to the cat is the search facility at ODP lags behind in takink up on newly listetd sites.
OK, I thought that was automatic :o
If "mysite" is actually better for your purpose than "my site" - fill out the change url form - it does work!
Actually, I think "my site" is better, so I'll leave it be for now...
Thanks for all the useful and kind advise!
I think the matter is mostly resolved...
Anyway, there's an important lesson in here:
Look for your listing by drilling down to the cat where you submitted to
Do not rely on the site search, it's delayed.
Don't know if this is mentioned somewhere on the ODP submssion process, but it certainly would cut down on many complaints ;)
Very frustrating because I had my site reviewed in the dmoz forum and several editors (in the forum, not the one's reviewing it) said it was a quality site.
