I have it from reasonably good sources inside Looksmart Australia that something will happen with Wisenut in terms of an update in September and also the likelihood of incorporation into Looksmart Results. **Editor please move to other SE section*****

Hi Indigojo,

Regarding Wisenut, the CEO did make mention that Wisenut will be fully integrated around September during their last webcast. Early or late he didn't mention. Any ideas???

Reason why I am asking, Zyborg has been very busy the last few months.
As well, they have been Beta testing. Also I noticed that MSN have also been Beta testing recently.

Could this be part of the integration???

Wow! Imagine, MSN, they would be rubbing their hands with glee!

2.5 bill through Inkt & 4 bill from Looksmart through Wisenut.

Cheers Porkyoz

Perhaps this isn't the most incisive or professional response, but, ...boy do they need an update/rewrite/entirely new algo, because, IMHO, obviously, their results are absolute junk.

Out of date, off-target, unclustered and spammy. Wisenot. Mat

Yep!

I agree Mat!

Thats probably why Wisenut have not been updated for about 12 months.

When Looksmart bought it, it was already out of date.

Maybe they have rebuilt it. Could be a good reason why it has not been updated.

If Looksmart had performed miracles on Wisenut and it nolonger provided dead links, with relevancy, speed built into it, where would that place MSN???

Cheers Porkyoz

Just found this board and am first time poster.
I have noticed that Wisenut (Zyborg) has been spidering a lot of our sites yet they do not appear on the Wisenut i see.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Welcome, Jillibert.

I haven't noticed them at all spidering any of our main 15 sites. When did you start seeing them?

Well I have it on good authority that Looksmart are currently refreshing the WiseNut database to over 3.5m pages, integrating their own paid results into WiseNut, and have done a deal with Yahoo to replace Google in the search results.

I only hope they can keep that number of pages refreshed at regular enough intervals for it to be useful.

Dunno if Looksmart has done a deal with Yahoo, but Wisenutbot definitely has still been spidering.

Speaking of wisenut, I see our old domain in their still.. it is similiar to our new domain, the old site has been ripped down except for a single page with hyperlinks going to our new domain since aug of 2001 - over a year ago however they still have 30 pages of ours in their.

One: Will they spider our now frontpage and only page in our old domain which links to our new site and include this in wisenut and anyone associated with them???

Two: What should I do with those 30 pages it still shows from the old domain - those pages look similiar to our new sites pages, however we have unpublished them from our server, so I believe yet they still are out their. (Possible because it sounds like they havent updated in 12 months)

Anything I can do? If or when they ever update will it spider our old hompage and find our new site?

Thanks!

Helpmebe1, almost surely whenever they update the long dead pages will be deleted. The bot still has been spidering. Odds are they found your new site by now too. I can't imagine LookSmart would pay to get Wisenut unless they planned to raise it from the dead.

rfgdxm1,
Thanks for the info! So another words, I should sit tight? Nothing I can do, once they update it sounds like all will be resolved. I am really suprised our pages are still out their. By the way.. do they have an affiliation with alltheweb? I see our 30 pages in alltheweb as well. Sorry, I know very little about wisenut.

Thanks!

Alltheweb is a demonstration search engine for FAST, which powers Lycos. Wisenut is some minor search engine that is showing results from sometime last year and has been neglected. Looksmart has bought Wisenut, and the bot for Wisenut definitely is still spidering. I've gotta figure that Looksmart is going to some sort of update with all this eventually. Probably they haven't figured out quite how to do it right yet. Wisenut may be down, but not out.

Wisenut was doing some heavy spidering of sites on the 30th of August.
