I haven't noticed this, thanks for bringing this in, Fathom.
So what happened to all those webmasters and the sites they submitted? Are those still somewhere in the system?
Let's see if and what Euroseek has to say on this.

My impression of Euroseek is of a bunch of well intentioned but unfortunately incompetent 'wanna be's'
Sad really, there's a lot of potential in the project but I just don't think it'll fly....

Google's PR went up from before the change everything was PR2 and below... just another clone now, though.

Yes, they're in the directory folder, not the dmoz one, with no immediate access into it. However, if I search using mycompanyrareterm, the search provides a selection of pages listed by Google and the link to the Euroseek directory listing at the bottom.
If I search for anothercompanyrareterm, which is listed by Google but was never submitted to Euroseek, the search comes up with no results...
It now amounts to just a fancy domain name pointing at Google. Pretty much worthless.
What a sham, and what a shame. I certainly won't be wasting any sleep over it though....
I remember a few years back, pitching them for ad-space, lot's of big talk but no cash, the ad-sales term is a stroker.
Seems nothing's changed....

Yes that is as I remember it. They launched using Google and added the directory later. It is a shame that they will not be building a Euro-directory. Although the costs would be very high in the long term.
I do not see the need for another ODP clone or cobranded Google search. Is their fallback plan a Europortal?

Looks like it all turns out being a story of misled expectations.
Alas, no new free directory for europe. At least operating with another dmoz clone and another Google outlet Euroseek is in working mode now.
What good will it do for the web?
Will they be able to gain reach?
Is this a viable business model?
I can't imagine that this is the final version of the long and winding story of Euroseek.
heini, you took the questions right out of my mouth. It does no good for the web. Reach? Never. Business model? I do not see how. If it was viable everybody would do it. The problem with using ODP and Google is that sooner or later the searchers will just go to the real thing.
Only by offering something unique with quality will they have a chance.
(At least they did not go PPC.) :)
I would be surprised if we would not see any additional attempts at money making soon on Euroseek.
Sorry if this is off topic but the concept of a Euro-directory intregues me.
Why can't our Russian friends at Mavicanet be that Euro-directory? It has category editors, is multilingual, international and well built? Perhaps it is just a matter of philosophically adopting it as *the* new Euro directory if old Euroseek is going to quit the field? Just a thought. :)
Thank you for the comments. We decided to use dmoz temporarily while we continue to build the directory. We didn't feel the euroseek directory had enough content for our users. Once the directory has enough sites, it will be released. We will be adding a submit your site and links to the directory under construction.
What about Google? Still planning on using them in the future too?
